causes of eye pain: o Blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid) o Migraine Headache o Burns o contact lenses o Trauma (direct blow, surgery) o Subconjunctival Hemorrhage (though commonly painless) o Sty: Inflamation and swelling of a sebaceous gland at the margin of an eyelid;called also hordeolum. o Object In Eye (foreign material, sand, contact lens, etc.) o Dacrocystitis (Inflammation of the lacrimal sac of the eye) o Sinus Problems (sinusitis, polyps) o Infections including herpes viruses, fungus, and bacterial o Glaucoma: An eye disease marked by increased pressure within the eyeball resulting in damage to the optic disk and gradual loss of vision, eye pain.

accompanied by: o Redness, swelling, discharge, or pressure in the eye(s) o Severe or prolonged pain, beyond 2 days o associated medical or eye problems |

Diagnostic tests
that may be performed include: o A slit-lamp examination o If glaucoma is suspected, eye pressure will be checked. |

|
Prevention and
self-care: Resting the eyes, taking an over-the-counter analgesic, and avoiding bright light are generally recommended. |
