causes of sore throat: o Virus Infection (e.g. Flu, viral pharyngitis) o Bacterial Infection (e.g Strep Throat, caused by streptococcal bacteria) o Infectious mononucleosis o Chemical Irritation (Tear Gas, Smoke, etc.) o Foreign body stuck in the throat o Dry Air or breathing through the mouth o Adenoids and Tonsils o Surgery such as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy o Infectious Mononucleosis: Epstein-Barr virus infection characterized by fever, swelling of lymph nodes, and lymphocytosis;called also glandular fever, kissing disease.

Diagnostic tests
that may be performed include: o Complete blood count (CBC) o Monospot test (to rule out mononucleosis) o Throat culture and rapid strep test |
